Lincoln Navigator: Engine Cooling - 3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS) / Thermostat Housing. Removal and Installation

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1. Drain the cooling system.
   Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding (303-03 Engine Cooling - 3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS), General Procedures).
   

1. Remove the intake manifold.
   Refer to: Intake Manifold (303-01 Engine - 3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS), Removal and Installation).
   

1. Remove the bolts and position the degas bottle aside.
   Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

1. NOTICE: Cover the accessory drive belts to prevent coolant contamination of the belts.

   Completely cover the accessory drive belts with waterproof plastic.
   

1. Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses.
   Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

1. Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses.

1. NOTICE: Do not allow the coolant inlet pipe to come out of the coolant crossover manifold assembly or the coolant inlet pipe O-ring seal may be damaged.

   NOTE: Use the ear on the top of the coolant inlet pipe to prevent the coolant pipe from coming out of the coolant crossover manifold assembly.

   Remove the bolts and the thermostat housing.
   Torque:
     Stage 1:  89 lb.in (10 Nm)
     Stage 2:  45°

1. Inspect the O-ring seals and replace if necessary.
   

Installation

1. NOTICE: Use Motorcraft® Orange Antifreeze/Coolant for vehicles built up to 08-July-2018 and Motorcraft® Yellow Antifreeze/Coolant for vehicles built from 09-July-2018. Failure to use the correct coolant can degrade corrosion protection.

   Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine coolant.
   Material: Motorcraft® Orange Concentrated Antifreeze/Coolant / VC-3-B (WSS-M97B44-D)
   Material: Motorcraft® Yellow Concentrated Antifreeze/Coolant / VC-13-G (WSS-M97B57-A1)

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
   

1. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
   Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding (303-03 Engine Cooling - 3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS), General Procedures).
