Using a diagnostic scan tool, CARRY OUT PMI on the SCMJ . REPEAT the self-test and VERIFY successful PMI . CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Pinpoint Tests

A Single Power Folding Headrest is Inoperative


Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 120 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions


REFER to: Third Row Seats - System Operation and Component Description (501-10C Third Row Seats, Description and Operation).

Possible Causes

  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Headrest fold actuator
  • SCMJ

PINPOINT TEST A: A SINGLE POWER FOLDING HEADREST IS INOPERATIVE
A1 CHECK THE SUSPECT HEADREST ACTUATOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: Suspect Headrest Actuator C4543 (LH ) or C4542 (RH ).
  • For LH , measure:

    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4543-2   Ground
  • For RH , measure:
    Click to display connectors
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4542-2   Ground

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to A2
No REPAIR the circuit.

A2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SUSPECT HEADREST ACTUATOR

NOTICE: The following step uses a test light to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only a Rotunda Test Lamp (SGT27000) or 250-300mA incandescent bulb test lamp. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Rotunda Flex Probe kit for the test lamp probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test lamp probe directly on any connector.

  • For LH , connect:
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4543-1   C4543-2
  • For RH , connect:
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4542-1   C4542-2
  • Ignition ON.
  • While observing the test light, press and release the headrest fold switch.

Did the test light momentarily illuminate when the headrest fold switch was activated?
Yes INSTALL new headrest actuator.
No GO to A3

A3 CHECK THE SUSPECT HEADREST ACTUATOR VOLTAGE FEED CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: SCMJ C4250D.
  • For LH , measure:

    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4250D-13   C4543-1
  • For RH , measure:
    Click to display connectors
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4250D-4   C4542-1

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to A4
No REPAIR the circuit.

A4 CHECK THE SCMJ (POWER FOLD SEAT MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the SCMJ connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the SCMJ connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new SCMJ .
REFER to: Power Fold Seat Module (PFSM) (501-10C Third Row Seats, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.


Both Power Folding Headrests are Inoperative

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
B14EF:11 Headrest Dump Output: Circuit Short To Ground This DTC sets when the power headrest actuator power feed circuit is shorted to ground.
B14EF:15 Headrest Dump Output: Circuit Short To Battery or Open This DTC sets when the power headrest actuator power feed circuit is shorted to voltage or open.
B154F:23 Headrest Dump Switch: Signal Stuck Low This DTC sets when the headrest fold switch circuit is active continuously (stuck switch) or circuit is shorted to ground.

Possible Causes

  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Headrest fold switch
  • SCMJ

PINPOINT TEST B: BOTH POWER FOLDING HEADRESTS ARE INOPERATIVE
B1 CHECK THE HEADREST FOLD SWITCH OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: SCMJ C4250C.
  • While pressing and releasing the headrest fold switch, measure:

Is the resistance less than 10 ohms when the switch is activated, and greater than 10,000 ohms when the switch is released?
Yes GO to B4
No GO to B2

B2 CHECK THE HEADREST FOLD SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect: Overhead Console C930.
  • Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to B3
No REPAIR the circuit.

B3 CHECK THE CHECK THE HEADREST FOLD SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms between the headrest fold switch and the SCMJ , and greater than 10,000 ohms between the headrest fold switch and ground?
Yes INSTALL a new headrest fold switch.
No REPAIR the circuit.

B4 CHECK THE HEADREST ACTUATOR OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Disconnect: SCMJ C4250D.
  • Disconnect: Headrest Actuator C4543 (LH ) and C4542 (RH ).
  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4250D-4   Ground
      C4250D-13   Ground

Are any voltages present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit in question.
No GO to B5

B5 CHECK THE HEADREST ACTUATOR OUTPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Measure:
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4250D-4   Ground
      C4250D-13   Ground

Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes GO to B6
No REPAIR the circuit in question.

B6 CHECK THE SCMJ (POWER FOLD SEAT MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the SCMJ connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the SCMJ connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new SCMJ .

The LH Power Recline Seat is Inoperative

B154E:11 Left Incline/Recline Switch: Circuit Short To Ground This DTC sets when the third row seat recline switch input circuit is shorted to ground.
B154E:13 Left Incline/Recline Switch: Circuit Open This DTC sets when the third row seat recline switch input circuit is open.
B154E:2A Left Incline/Recline Switch: Signal Stuck In Range This DTC sets when the third row seat recline switch input circuit is stuck active.

Possible Causes

  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Third row seat recline switch
  • Seat assembly
  • SCMJ

PINPOINT TEST C: THE LH (LEFT-HAND) POWER RECLINE SEAT IS INOPERATIVE
C1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE POWER FOLDING SEAT
  • Ignition ON.
  • Open the liftgate.
  • Using the third row folding seat switch, attempt to operate the LH power folding seat to the folded and upright positions.

Does the LH seat operate correctly when using the third row folding seat switch?
Yes GO to C2
No GO to Pinpoint Test F

C2 CHECK THE THIRD ROW SEAT RECLINE SWITCH RESISTANCE VALUES
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: SCMJ C4250C.
  • Measure:
    Click to display connectors
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4250C-1   C4250C-4
    Switch Position Resistance
    Recline rearward 1.7K - 1.8K ohms
    Recline forward 3.1K- 3.3K ohms
    Switch at rest 14.8K - 15.1K ohms

Is the resistance within the specified range for each control switch position?
Yes GO to C5
No GO to C3

C3 CHECK THE THIRD ROW SEAT RECLINE SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect: LH Third Row Seat Recline Switch C4549.
  • Measure:
    Click to display connectors
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4549-2   Ground

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes REPAIR the circuit.
No GO to C4

C4 CHECK THE THIRD ROW SEAT RECLINE SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure:

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new third row seat recline switch.
No REPAIR the circuit in question.

C5 CHECK THE SCMJ (POWER FOLD SEAT MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the SCMJ connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the SCMJ connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new SCMJ .

B1545:13 Right Incline/Recline Switch: Circuit Open This DTC sets when the third row seat recline switch input circuit is open.
B1545:2A Right Incline/Recline Switch: Signal Stuck In Range This DTC sets when the third row seat recline switch input circuit is stuck active.

Possible Causes

  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Third row seat recline switch
  • Seat assembly
  • SCMJ

PINPOINT TEST D: THE RH (RIGHT-HAND) POWER RECLINE SEAT IS INOPERATIVE
D1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE POWER FOLDING SEAT
  • Ignition ON.
  • Open the liftgate.
  • Using the third row folding seat switch, attempt to operate the RH power folding seat to the folded and upright positions.

Does the RH seat operate correctly when using the third row folding seat switch?
Yes GO to D2
No GO to Pinpoint Test G

D2 CHECK THE THIRD ROW SEAT RECLINE SWITCH RESISTANCE VALUES
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: SCMJ C4250C and C4250D.
  • Measure:
    Click to display connectors
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4250D-8   C4250C-4
    Switch Position Resistance
    Recline rearward 1.7K - 1.8K ohms
    Recline forward 3.1K- 3.3K ohms
    Switch at rest 14.8K - 15.1K ohms

Is the resistance within the specified range for each control switch position?
Yes GO to D5
No GO to D3

D3 CHECK THE THIRD ROW SEAT RECLINE SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect: RH Third Row Seat Recline Switch C4559.
  • Measure:
    Click to display connectors
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C4559-2   Ground

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes REPAIR the circuit.
No GO to D4

D4 CHECK THE THIRD ROW SEAT RECLINE SWITCH CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure:

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new third row seat recline switch.
No REPAIR the circuit in question.

D5 CHECK THE SCMJ (POWER FOLD SEAT MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the SCMJ connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the SCMJ connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new SCMJ .

  • NOTE: During this step, the left and right seats fold and open completely. Press the both seats button for at least 3 seconds to enter the learning mode. Keep holding the both seats button for approximately 1 minute until both seats complete fold and open cycles and then stop moving.
  • Release the both seats button.
  • Verify the third row power fold seat operation.

U0100:87 Lost Communication with ECM/PCM "A": Missing Message Set by the SCMJ whenever it has lost communication to the PCM for 5 seconds or longer.

Possible Causes

  • Module communication
  • SCMJ
  • PCM

PINPOINT TEST I: DTC U0100:87
I1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN
  • Ignition ON.
  • Verify there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?
Yes GO to I2
No The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

I2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.

Does the PCM pass the network test?
Yes GO to I3
No

I3 RECHECK THE SCMJ (POWER FOLD SEAT MODULE)

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.

  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, repeat the SCMJ self-test.

Is DTC U0100:87 still present?
Yes GO to I4
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

I4 CHECK FOR DTC U0100:87 IN OTHER MODULES

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.

  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.

Is DTC U0100:87 set in other modules?
Yes
   Click here to access Guided Routine (PCM).
No INSTALL a new SCMJ .

Does the TCM pass the network test?
Yes GO to J3
No

  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

Is DTC U0101:87 still present?
Yes GO to J4
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

J4 CHECK FOR DTC U0101:87 IN OTHER MODULES

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.

  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.

Is DTC U0101:87 set in other modules?
Yes INSTALL a new TCM .
No INSTALL a new SCMJ .

Does the BCM pass the network test?
Yes GO to K3
No

  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

Yes GO to K4
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

K4 CHECK FOR DTC U0140:87 IN OTHER MODULES

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.

  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs) from all modules.

Is DTC U0140:87 set in other modules?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM .
REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) (419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules, Removal and Installation).
No INSTALL a new SCMJ .
REFER to: Power Fold Seat Module (PFSM) (501-10C Third Row Seats, Removal and Installation).


DTC U3003:16 or U3003:17


Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 120 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

  DTC Fault Trigger Conditions


DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
U3003:16 Battery Voltage: Circuit Voltage Below Threshold Set by the SCMJ whenever battery voltage has been less than 8 volts for 30 seconds or more.
U3003:17 Battery Voltage: Circuit Voltage Above Threshold Set by the SCMJ whenever battery voltage has been greater than 16.5 volts for 5 seconds or more.

Possible Causes

  • Charging system concern
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • SCMJ

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

  • Inspect for damaged wiring harness(es).
  • Inspect for loose or damaged connectors.

PINPOINT TEST L: DTC U3003:16 OR U3003:17
NOTE: Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough inspection and verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test.
L1 RETRIEVE ALL CONTINUOUS MEMORY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (CMDTCS) IN ALL MODULES
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve ALL Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).

Is DTC B1317, B1318, B1676, U3003:16 or U3003:17 present in one or more modules AND are any charging system Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present in the PCM ?
Yes DIAGNOSE the charging system. Refer to the appropriate section in Group 414 for the procedure.
No GO to L2

L2 TEST BATTERY CONDITION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Carry out the Battery Condition Test.
    REFER to: Battery (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Diagnosis and Testing).

Did the battery pass the condition test?
Yes If the battery passed the condition test but required a recharge, DIAGNOSE the charging system.
REFER to: Charging System - 3.5L EcoBoost (272kW/370PS) (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Diagnosis and Testing).
CLEAR all Continuous Memory Diagnostic Codes (CMDTCs).
If the battery passed the condition test and did not require a recharge, GO to L3
No INSTALL a new battery.
REFER to: Battery (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
CLEAR all Continuous Memory Diagnostic Codes (CMDTCs).

L3 CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM VOLTAGE
  • Start the engine.
  • Measure the voltage of the battery.
  • For DTC U3003:17, turn off all accessories while measuring the battery voltage.
  • For DTC U3003:16, turn on headlights and HVAC fan on high while measuring the battery voltage.

Is the voltage between 13 and 15.2 volts?
Yes GO to L4
No DIAGNOSE the charging system. Refer to the appropriate section in Group 414 for the procedure. CLEAR all Continuous Memory Diagnostic Codes (CMDTCs).

L4 CHECK THE SCMJ (POWER FOLD SEAT MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the SCMJ connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the SCMJ connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Reconnect all previously disconnected connectors.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new SCMJ .
REFER to: Power Fold Seat Module (PFSM) (501-10C Third Row Seats, Removal and Installation).
TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new seat assembly.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
