Lincoln Navigator: Roof Opening Panel / Power Roof Opening Panel Initialization. General Procedures

Lincoln Navigator 2018-2025 Workshop Manual / Body and Paint / Roof Opening Panel / Power Roof Opening Panel Initialization. General Procedures

Initialization

WARNING: Keep objects and body parts clear of the glass panel when carrying out the initialization procedure. During the initialization procedure, the glass panel closes with high force and cannot detect objects in its path. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

NOTE: The roof opening panel motor must be initialized when repairs are carried out on the roof opening panel system, including: any time the roof opening panel motor has been removed, the roof opening panel glass (fixed panoramic or front sliding) has been removed or adjusted, or if the roof opening panel frame has been removed.

NOTE: If the roof opening panel motors are removed and then reinstalled, they must be returned to the same location (driver side or passenger side) they were removed from, with the roof opening panel in the same state (opened or closed) they were in when the motors were removed, or the system will not function correctly and re-intialization may not be possible.

NOTE: Carrying out the initialization procedure will initialize both the roof opening panel glass motor and the shield (sunshade) motor.

NOTE: A fully functional system features One Touch Open and One Touch Close. If these features are not available, the system requires initialization.

NOTE: The battery must be fully charged while performing the initialization procedure. The procedure cannot be completed if the battery is in a low state of charge.

  1. With the driver’s door closed, place the ignition switch ON and wait for the overhead console lights to turn OFF.
  1. NOTE: Below steps are only applicable if the One Touch Open and One Touch Close features are functioning.

    • Move the Sliding Glass to the fully Closed position and the Shield to the fully Opened position.
    • Switch the ignition OFF and then quickly turn it back ON.
    • Press and hold the Shield Open switch for at least 10 seconds. This will deinitialize the roof opening panel motors.
    • Verify that the One Touch Close feature is no longer available for the Shield.
  1. NOTE: Complete the following within 3 seconds:

With the driver's door closed and the map lights on the overhead console OFF, use both thumbs to press the two map light switches as follows: LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT, LEFT.
  1. NOTE: Below step must be performed within 2 seconds of releasing the switch at the end of the previous step.

Press and hold the Sliding Glass Close switch until the Sliding Glass and Shield have both stalled at the front of the roof opening and stopped moving. Release the switch and immediately begin the next step.
  1. Press and hold the Sliding Glass Close switch again. The Shield will open fully and then close where it will remain while the sliding glass moves from FULL VENT to FULL OPEN to FULL CLOSE. Do not release the switch until all movements are complete.
  1. Verify successful initialization by opening the shield with the Shield Open switch. Repeat the procedure if the One Touch Open and One Touch Close features are not available.
