PINPOINT TEST A: LEFT FRONT SIDE ACTIVE PARK ASSIST SENSOR SIGNAL FAILURE - B129C:08

NOTE: Before disconnecting any of the active park assist sensors, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.


Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 145 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
IPMA B129C:08 Left Front Side Sensor: Bus Signal/Message Failures A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the IPMA when there is a message failure on the LIN for the left front active park assist sensor.

Possible Sources

  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Left front active park assist sensor
  • IPMA
A1 CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) SELF-TEST
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, CARRY OUT the IPMA self-test.
  • Check the IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.

Are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for multiple front parking aid sensors recorded?
Yes GO to A2
No • For DTC B129C:08 GO to A3
• For all other IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to the IPMA DTC Chart in this section.

A2 CHECK THE FRONT BUMPER WIRING HARNESS
  • Inspect the front bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds or corrosion.

Is the front bumper wiring harness OK?
Yes GO to A3
No REPAIR or INSTALL a new front bumper wiring harness.

A3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SENSOR
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect left front active park assist sensor C1607 .
  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:
    Click to display connectors
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C1607-1 Ground

Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to A4
No REPAIR the circuit.

A4 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE SENSOR
  • Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to A5
No REPAIR the circuit.

A5 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes GO to A6
No REPAIR the circuit.

A6 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO POWER
  • Disconnect IPMA C242A .
  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:

Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the affected circuits.
No GO to A7

A7 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO VREF OR SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUITS
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Measure:

Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes GO to A8
No REPAIR the affected circuits.

A8 CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Measure:
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C1607-1   C242A-22
      C1607-2   C242A-7
      C1607-3   C242A-11

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to A9
No REPAIR the affected circuit.

A9 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR
  • Connect IPMA C242A .
  • Install a known good sensor for the suspect left front active park assist sensor.
    REFER to: Front Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA DTC and repeat the self-test.

Is DTC B129C:08 still present?
Yes GO to A10
No INSTALL a new left front active park assist sensor.
REFER to: Front Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).

A10 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all IPMA connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the IPMA connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPMA .
REFER to: Image Processing Module A (IPMA) (419-07 Lane Keeping System, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

PINPOINT TEST B: RIGHT FRONT SIDE ACTIVE PARK ASSIST SENSOR SIGNAL FAILURE - B129D:08

NOTE: Before disconnecting any of the active park assist sensors, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.


Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 145 for schematic and connector information.

B1 CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) SELF-TEST
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, CARRY OUT the IPMA self-test.
  • Check the IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.

Are Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for multiple front parking aid sensors recorded?
Yes GO to B2
No • For DTC B129D:08 GO to B3
• For all other IPMA Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to the IPMA DTC Chart in this section.

B2 CHECK THE FRONT BUMPER WIRING HARNESS
  • Inspect the front bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds or corrosion.

Is the front bumper wiring harness OK?
Yes GO to B3
No REPAIR or INSTALL a new front bumper wiring harness.

B3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SENSOR
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect right front active park assist sensor C1608 .
  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:
    Click to display connectors
    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C1608-1 Ground

Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to B4
No REPAIR the circuit.

B4 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE SENSOR
  • Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to B5
No REPAIR the circuit.

B5 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes GO to B6
No REPAIR the circuit.

B6 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO POWER

  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:

Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the affected circuits.
No GO to B7

B7 CHECK THE SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO VREF OR SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUITS

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to B9
No REPAIR the affected circuit.

B9 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR
  • Connect IPMA C242A .
  • Install a known good sensor for the suspect right front active park assist sensor.
    REFER to: Front Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA DTC and repeat the self-test.

Is DTC B129D:08 still present?
Yes GO to B10
No INSTALL a new right front active park assist sensor for the one in question.
REFER to: Front Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).

B10 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all IPMA connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the IPMA connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new IPMA .

Yes GO to C2
No • For DTC B13F3:08 GO to C3

C2 CHECK THE REAR BUMPER WIRING HARNESS
  • Inspect the rear bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds or corrosion.

Is the rear bumper wiring harness OK?
Yes GO to C3
No REPAIR or INSTALL a new rear bumper wiring harness.

C3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SENSOR
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect left rear active park assist sensor C4420 .
  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to C4
No REPAIR the circuit.

C4 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE SENSOR
  • Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to C5
No REPAIR the circuit.

Yes REPAIR the affected circuits.
No GO to C7

Yes GO to C9
No REPAIR the affected circuit.

C9 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR
  • Connect IPMA C242A .
  • Install a known good sensor for the suspect left rear active park assist sensor.
    REFER to: Rear Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA DTC and repeat the self-test.

Is DTC B13F3:08 still present?
Yes GO to C10
No INSTALL a new left rear active park assist sensor for the one in question.
REFER to: Rear Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).

C10 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all IPMA connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)

Yes GO to D2
No • For DTC B13F4:08 GO to D3

D2 CHECK THE REAR BUMPER WIRING HARNESS
  • Inspect the rear bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds or corrosion.

Is the rear bumper wiring harness OK?
Yes GO to D3
No REPAIR or INSTALL a new rear bumper wiring harness.

D3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SENSOR
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect right rear active park assist sensor C4421 .
  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:
    Click to display connectors

      C4421-1 Ground

Is the voltage greater than 9 volts?
Yes GO to D4
No REPAIR the circuit.

D4 CHECK FOR GROUND AT THE SENSOR

D9 INSTALL A KNOWN GOOD SENSOR
  • Connect IPMA C242A .
  • Install a known good sensor for the suspect right rear active park assist sensor.
    REFER to: Rear Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the IPMA DTC and repeat the self-test.

Is DTC B13F4:08 still present?
Yes GO to D10
No INSTALL a new right rear active park assist sensor for the one in question.
REFER to: Rear Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).

D10 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPMA (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE A) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all IPMA connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the IPMA connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

  • Check for damage, debris or any aftermarket air dams that may restrict sensor ventilation.

Is there any damage or aftermarket parts restricting the ventilation to the sensor(s)?
Yes REPAIR or REMOVE the aftermarket parts as needed.

Yes The active park assist system is not available if the AdvanceTrac® is off or if an ABS or AdvanceTrac® event is in progress when the system is being activated by the driver.
The active park assist system is not available immediately after a battery disconnect or if the PSCM and/or the ABS module were recently reprogrammed, or on a newly manufactured vehicle that has not been driven above 50 km/h (30 mph) with minimal driver steering input for 30 seconds. Abort this step at any time to maintain safe driving, and repeat the process if required. If completed correctly, active park assist will be available upon pressing the active park assist switch.

Possible Sources

  • Active park assist sensor(s) damaged, misaligned, or locked into the bumper incorrectly. REMOVE and correctly INSTALL the active park assist sensor(s) as necessary.
  • Dirty or iced over active park assist sensor(s). CLEAN the bumper covers and active park assist sensors with high-pressure water.
  • Active park assist sensors affected by a sudden change in ambient air temperature. The temperature of the air around the vehicle can change rapidly, such as the vehicle being driven into or out of a parking garage or car wash. As a result, the air temperature displayed in the vehicle may not be close enough to the actual ambient air temperature. The active park assist system relies on accurately sensing the ambient air temperature to compensate the sensors. No action is required.
  • The tires are not inflated to the correct pressure, the tires are not the same size or the tires are not the OE (original equipment) size. INSPECT the tire condition, pressure and size. A considerably worn tire positions the vehicle far from the curb. A larger size tire positions the vehicle closer to the curb. REPAIR or REPLACE tire(s) as necessary.
  • The driver allowed the vehicle to roll in the opposite direction of the transmission, such as rolling forward when the reverse gear is selected. INFORM the customer not to allow the vehicle to roll in the opposite direction when operating the active park assist system. REFER to the Owner's Literature.
  • An irregular curb is present along the parking space. The system may not be able to align the vehicle to curbs that are damaged, very shallow or covered by debris. If this is the circumstance, the system aligns the vehicle relative to objects bordering the parking space.
  • A vehicle or object bordering the parking space is not aligned with the parking space. The system aligns the vehicle to the objects bordering the parking space when a curb is not detected.
  • One of the parked vehicles has an elevated attachment, such as a salt spreader or moving truck bed that the sensors cannot detect. Elevated attachments may not be detected by the system.
  • The parking space length or parked objects position has changed after the vehicle has passed the parking space. The system scans the parking space as the vehicle is driven by the available spaces. Therefore, the system cannot detect if the parked vehicle or objects position has changed after the parking space has been scanned. No action needs to take place at this time.
  • The transmission not shifting correctly. REFER to the appropriate section in 307

PINPOINT TEST L: THE ACTIVE PARK ASSIST SYSTEM DOES NOT OFFER AVAILABLE PARKING SPACES

Possible Sources

  • The vehicle is being driven too close or too far from the adjacent vehicle and/or objects. The vehicle must be driven greater than 40 cm (16 in) and less than 152 cm (60 in) from the adjacent vehicle.
  • The parking space available is too small. For parallel parking, the active park assist system only allows available parking spaces that are larger than 1.2 times the length of the vehicle. The system is operating correctly at this time. For perpendicular parking, the active park assist system only allows available parking spaces that are larger than vehicle width + 90 cm (3 ft) wide. The system is operating correctly at this time.
  • There may not be enough room to maneuver the vehicle into the available space. There needs to be enough space on the opposite side of the vehicle to allow the front of the vehicle to swing out as the operator backs into the space.
  • An obstruction may be covering the active park assist sensor(s). INSPECT and CLEAN the active park assist sensor(s). REMOVE any obstruction that is covering the sensor(s).
  • The active park assist sensor(s) isolator ring is missing, damaged or misaligned. INSTALL a new active park assist sensor(s) as necessary.
  • The Outside Air Temperature (OAT) sensor does not indicate accurate temperature readings. DRIVE the vehicle to allow airflow over the Outside Air Temperature (OAT) sensors until the centerstack infotainment display temperature reading is reflective of the actual outside ambient temperature.

PINPOINT TEST M: THE CENTERSTACK INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY SHOWS POA NOT AVAILABLE WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL IS USED DURING A PARALLEL PARK OUT ASSIST MANEUVER

Possible Sources

  • The occupied parking space is too small. The active park assist system only offers the parallel park out assist feature when the occupied parking space is at least 1.2 times the length of the vehicle. The system is operating correctly at this time.
  • An obstruction may be covering the front active park assist sensor(s). INSPECT and CLEAN the front active park assist sensor(s). REMOVE any obstruction that is covering the sensor(s).
  • No object or vehicle is detected directly in front or behind the occupied parking space. The parallel park out assist feature is only available when an object or vehicle is detected within 1.5 m (5 ft) of either the front or the rear bumper. The system is operating correctly at this time.
  • An object or vehicle is detected on the side of the turn signal activation. The parallel park out assist feature displays the message POA NOT AVAILABLE when objects or vehicles are detected within 110 cm (4 ft) in North America and South America or detected within 60 cm (2 ft) in Europe and Asia Pacific on the side of turn signal activation. Passing traffic, pedestrians or other objects may be detected. When the turn signal is activated, VERIFY the desired side has a clearance of at least 110 cm (4 ft) in North America and South America or 60 cm (2 ft) in Europe and Asia Pacific.

No The vehicle has been driven farther than 2 m (7 ft) after ignition on, or after a parallel park.
INFORM customer that the parallel park out assist feature is only an available option immediately after a successful automated parallel park or immediately after ignition on. Driving farther than 2 m (7 ft) after either of these events results in the parallel park out assist not being an available option for the driver to select.
