Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

NOTE: High series heated steering wheel shown, all others similar.

NOTE: Make sure the wheels are in the straight ahead position.

  1. Remove the driver airbag.
    Refer to: Driver Airbag (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation).
  1. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector(s).
  1. NOTE: Make sure the tick-mark on the end of the steering column shaft is on the top position.

    Remove and discard the steering wheel retainer and remove the steering wheel.
    Torque: 46 lb.ft (62.5 Nm)
  1. Tape the clockspring rotor to the outer housing to keep it from rotating.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

    NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.

    With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
